Positron gives The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office

Okeechobee is the Seminole word for "Big Water." In the heart of South Florida, Lake Okeechobee lives up to its name as the second largest freshwater lake in the United States and the largest with no natural outlet. The lake is teeming with life and has a number of small towns, such as Yeehaw Junction, that skirt its shores. The area has long been known for its abundant natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Memorable figures such as Pogy Bill and the Ashley gang weave local lore into the colorful fabric that constitutes the history of Okeechobee.

In 2002, Sergeant Billy Markham, Director of the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office 9-1-1 center, was planning to upgrade his PSAP. He needed to move forward with enhanced incident management features and prepare the way for Phase II for wireless calls. He wanted to implement a state-of-the-art, fully integrated, end-to-end emergency response system that would work right out of the box. With the lives of his friends and fellow officers on the line every day, making the right decision was crucial.

In January of 2003, Sergeant Markham went live with Positron's integrated suite of emergency response applications that spans the entire workflow of public safety, including Power 911, Power CAD, Power MAP, Power RMS and Power JAIL. According to Sergeant Markham, "Positron came highly recommended. Their solution includes everything we needed. As well, Positron tailored their products and services to work the way we do things. Best of all," he continued, "with Positron's equipment we are ready to go Phase II next summer." Hopefully the summer of 2005 will be better than the summer of 2004.

Hurricane Season took on a whole new meaning for the residents of Okeechobee County in 2004. Throughout the worst that Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne had to dish out, "Positron's systems allowed us to continue dispatching law enforcement, fire and EMS resources to the unfortunate victims of the storms. Positron really made our life easy," said Sergeant Markham. "Given our experience with Positron, there is no comparison to any other company out there."
