A child is choking. A little life is slipping away. A frantic parent calls 9-1-1. Minutes seem like days. A dispatcher at the Polk County Sheriff's Office in Osceola, Nebraska answers the call.

"Back in 2003, we only had basic 9-1-1," says Jim Davis, Sheriff in Polk County. "There was more information available to us from 9-1-1 calls that we couldn't see. We wanted access to it."

"We started the upgrade process in 2004. We narrowed the competition down to 4 companies. Once the presentations had finished," Sheriff Davis continues, "we let the dispatchers test-drive the systems to see which one they liked best. In terms of both price and user-friendliness, everybody was sold on Positron."

Next came time to deploy the system. "The install was fantastic. It went better than I expected. Going with Positron has been a wonderful experience," the Sheriff says. "Everybody has been marvelous. I can't say enough."

In May 2005, dispatch turned up Positron's suite of emergency management software, including Power 911, Power CAD and Power RMS. Sheriff Davis mentions features like ANI/ALI before answer and call play back as favorites. However one incident in particular comes to mind when he talks about the system.

As he thinks back, the Sheriff remembers a call coming into the dispatch about a choking child. He could tell from the dispatcher's voice that the child truly was in danger. Between the dispatcher's words and the information displayed on Power 911's screen, the Sheriff and a deputy were able to get to the scene and get the child breathing again before EMS showed up. According to the Sheriff, "Positron really came through for us. Features are nice to have but it's what the system can do for you that sets it apart."
